Loretta Townsend has a B.A and a Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. In 1989 after graduating from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law, she worked for five years as an Assistant District Attorney at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, NY. Ms. Townsend prosecuted felony domestic violence cases in the newly created Domestic Violence Bureau. After leaving the District Attorney’s Office she worked at the Public Defender’s office in American Samoa defending clients accused of serious felonies.
Upon returning to the United States, she was a staff attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Orange County, NY representing indigent defendants in criminal cases. In 2001 Ms. Townsend started working for the City of New York as the Deputy Disciplinary Counsel handling management side labor issues and employment law for the Department of Environmental Protection.
Ms. Townsend has been at Weinstock, Friedman and Friedman since 2008. In 2005 she joined the Maryland Bar. Ms. Townsend has been a volunteer Public Defender in the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, and has also done volunteer work in immigration law and in the Maryland Legal Aid family law pro se project in Baltimore City.
